How to Prevent Your Child From Being Bored While Waiting for a Towing Service

1. Describe the Tow Truck

Some kids may be fascinated by the tow truck itself and what it does. Explain how the truck will attach your vehicle to a hook and transport it to a place where you can get it fixed. Talk about the helpfulness of the driver or any other instances when you’ve needed a towing service. Your child might pass the time excited to see the truck and meet the driver.

2. Talk About Road Safety

Along with any stories you might have about experiences with a towing service, have a discussion with your child about rules to follow to keep yourself safe on the road. Point out how you got the vehicle to a secure area when it started having problems and why it’s dangerous to leave your car stopped in the road. Take the opportunity also to discuss how to handle strangers who may want to help, such as keeping the doors locked and only opening the window enough to speak.

3. Play Games

Count types or colors of passing vehicles together or play games like “I Spy” or charades. Have a contest to see who can tell the same well-known fairy tale in the most absurd way, or construct a story of your own by taking turns narrating it. Watch the traffic lights and try to “make” them turn green by snapping your fingers at the same second. If possible, avoid using electronics if they are about to die. 

If your phone still has enough battery and access to the Internet, turn on a playlist of music that your child loves. You can either listen to it peacefully or sing the lyrics together. They might enjoy being introduced to new music as well.
